Modes Of Transportation
There are 3 basic modes of transportation are by
1. Land
2. Water
3. Air

A part from there are four major modes of transportation
(i) Roadways or highways
(ii)Railways
(iii)Waterways
(iv)Airways
(i) Roadways or Highways
- The transportation by road is the only mode which could give maximum service to all.
- The roads or highways not only include the modern highway system but also the district road,village road.
- It is also possible to provide door to door service.
- So all the ways are depended to roadways,therefore the road network is the only to serve as a feeder system for other modes of transportation.
(ii) Railways
- Railways have been developed both for long distance transportation and for urban travel.
- It is also economic for passengers.
(iii) Waterways
- Waterways include oceans,rivers,canals and lakes for the movement of ships and boats.
- Transportation by water is the slowest among the four modes,but this mode needs minimum energy to haul unit load through unit distance.
- Waterways are possible where inland transportation facilities are available.
- waterways mainly use in goods import and export from countries to countries.
(iv) Airways
- Airways include aircraft and helicopters.The transportation by air is the fastest among all the modes.It also provides more comfort to the passenger.
- Among all modes,airways is costly than others.
