Different Modes Of Transportation

                                             Modes Of Transportation

There are 3 basic modes of transportation are by
                                                1. Land
                                                2. Water
                                                3. Air

Land given the scope for development of road and railways
Water and air have developed waterways and airways...

A part from there are four major modes of transportation
      (i) Roadways or highways
      (ii)Railways
      (iii)Waterways
      (iv)Airways

  (i) Roadways or Highways
  •   The transportation by road is the only mode which could give maximum service to all.
  •   The roads or highways not only include the modern highway system but also the district                   road, village road.
  •    It is also possible to provide door to door service.
  • So all the ways are depended to roadways, therefore the road  network is the only to serve           as a feeder system for other modes of transportation.

 (ii) Railways
  • Railways have been developed both for long distance transportation and for urban travel.
  • It is also economic for passengers.

   (iii) Waterways

  • Waterways include oceans, rivers, canals and lakes for the movement of ships and boats.
  • Transportation by water is the slowest among the four modes, but this mode needs minimum energy to haul unit load through unit distance.

  • Waterways are possible where inland transportation facilities are available.
  • waterways mainly use in goods import and export from countries to countries.

  (iv) Airways

  • Airways include aircraft and helicopters. The transportation by air is the fastest among all the modes. It also provides more comfort to the passenger.
